Dr. Sharnai Thompson is originally from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She earned her undergraduate degree in Finance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, and then got an MBA from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. She worked a few years in Dallas before deciding to go back to school to become a vet. Dr. Thompson had to start at the very beginning with the prerequisites required for vet school. She attended vet school at St. Matthews University in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, and did her clinical year at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Thompson credits most of her experience outside of vet school to owning, breeding, and showing quarter horses. She is an 11-time AQHA World Champion and NSBA Top 5 Lifetime Nonpro Earnings but had a big break due to vet school. Dr. Thompson feels her experience on the owner’s side of things will help her to frame her communication and perspectives as a vet.
Outside of work, Dr. Thompson loves to do anything outdoors but says her favorite days are on the water fishing with her boyfriend back in the Cayman Islands. Dr. Thompson brought with her to Ocala her French Bulldog, Doc, who frequently travels with her and her sphynx cat named Janice, after her grandmother!
She is very excited to be back around horses full time and can’t wait to learn from other breeds and disciplines!Back to Vets
