Dr. Sam Carter is from Elgin, Illinois and started riding hunter/ jumpers at the age of eight, and got her off the track thoroughbred, Rosie, when she was thirteen. Being involved with horses at a young age and the relationship she had with her own vets inspired her to purse equine veterinary medicine. She received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from University of Illinois. She came to Peterson Smith Equine Hospital + Complete Care for an Ambulatory Internship and was hired on as an Associate the following year.
Her areas of interest include sports medicine, emergency medicine, preventative medicine and geriatric medicine. In her free time Sam enjoys horseback riding, running and hanging out with her friends.
